Galleri GKM is proud to announce that, in collaboration with Pontus Frithiof, we will be exhibiting William Sweetlove’s colourful sculptures at the renowned gourmet restaurant Pontus! at Brunnsgatan 1 in Stockholm. On Thursday, 7 October the artist’s pigs, elephants, dogs, sheep and other animals will find themselves in what is – for them – an unusual but nonetheless very exciting new environment.
William Sweetlove, born in Ostend, Belgium, in 1949, unites dadaism with surrealism and pop art in humoristic sculptures that at first sight may seem “kitschy”. However, closer familiarity with his works reveals their role as a creative antidote to the overproduction and overconsumption of our society.
With his cloned animals William Sweetlove calls for greater ecological awareness and urges us to reflect on the challenges facing humanity in a world of constant change, where man and nature need to find a common strategy for survival.
Recently William Sweetlove has attracted a great deal of attention in Sweden since the community of Borås dedicated his sculpture “Cloned Frogs on Gala Dress” as a wedding gift to Their Royal Highnesses, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Prince Daniel.
Welcome to attend the opening of this exhibition in the presence of the artist himself.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, 7 October, between 16:00 and 20:00 at restaurant Pontus!
at Brunnsgatan 1 in Stockholm.
